1889 No. 7 Cigars N526

Released in 1889 were the N526 No. 7 Cigar baseball cards. The 15-card set features cards measuring 3-1/2" by 4-1/2". The fronts show a black and white drawing of a Boston bseball player.
The player’s name and position played are printed in capital letters at the bottom of the card. Below that are the words, "Boston Base Ball Club". There are some versions with "C.S. White and Co." printed at the card tops.
This set of early baseball cards feature players from the NL’s Boston Beaneaters (now called the Atlanta Braves).
There are three known designs on the backs of the these cards. Some contain a tobacco advertisement for Number 7 cigars (a tobacco product distributed by H.W.S & Co) which reads, "Is the BEST good enough for you? Then smoke the celebrated NUMBER 7 CIGAR. The original and only 10 CENT CIGAR. SOLD EVERYWHERE FOR 5 CENTS."
Others show an advertisement for "Diamond S" cigars, which advertise the "Best 10 cent Cigar in America", while blank backs exist on the others.
Shown in the middle of the back is a brown-colored triangle that contains the following (printed in white): "H.W.S. & CO. NUMBER 7". Printed on the left side of the triangle is "ALL GENUINE BEAR". On the right side is "A TAG LIKE THIS."
Issued by H. W. S. & Company, includedin the very rare Number 7 set are Hall of Fame players John G. Clarkson, Mike Kelly, Dennis Brouthers, and Charles Radbourne. Also included are cards of Chief C. W. Bennett, Tom Brown, Charlie W. Ganzell, James Hart, Joe Quinn, Hardie Richardson, William Sowders, T. T. Brown, R. F. Johnston, M. J. Madden, and William Nash, I. B. Ray (depicted as J. B. Ray).
